Green Party Spokesperson for Justice and TD for Dublin South-Central, Deputy Patrick Costello, has sought assurances of funding and community supports from the Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Joe O’Brien, following a fire at the community centre on Donore Avenue.

Speaking on the matter, Deputy Costello said: “The community centre on Donore Avenue is an invaluable asset for locals in the Dublin 8 area. It is a lifeline for so many in the community and plays a vital role in community development and social cohesion. After already going through so much uncertainty with the pandemic, it’s incredibly upsetting news to hear that the centre was substantially damaged as a result of a fire. Any loss of services would have a devasting impact on the community.

“I have sought assurances of funding and community supports from my Green Party colleague, Minister Joe O’Brien, and will continue to work closely with him so that we see this vital service reopened and thriving as soon as possible. I also wish to extend my sincere thanks to the Dublin Fire Brigade who worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control,” concluded Deputy Costello.
