About

Hello and welcome to my website, let me introduce myself.

My name is Patrick Costello and I am a Green Party TD for Dublin-South Central.

I was educated at Gonzaga, UCD, and Trinity. In UCD I met my partner Hazel Chu and we have one child together – Alexandra.

Despite my political marriage I don’t come from a political background, but it was my frontline work that led me to believe that I needed to play a role in being the change in society I wanted to see.

Before being elected I was working as a child protection social worker. I worked with both adults and youths suffering from homelessness and addiction.

I also volunteered as a scout leader for over ten years involving myself in developing communities. I sit on the board of CLAY, a community-based youth project based in Crumlin who provide a range of services to enhance life skills and opportunities for young people in the area.

Having witnessed inequality in our society firsthand and joined the Green Party I found myself in running for public office. I first stood for election to Dublin City Council in 2014 and again in 2019 – topping the poll on both occasions.

In this capacity I worked to build a sustainable Dublin focusing on active travel, air quality and better planning for public transport, pedestrian and cycling services.

In 2020 I was honoured to be elected by the people of Dublin-South Central, the first time a Green Party TD was elected in the area.

In this Dáil term I am party spokesperson for Justice and sit on several Oireachtas Committees such as the Justice, Children, Good Friday Agreement and the Committee for Issues Concerning the Travelling Community. I am also a member of the Committee on Assisted Dying,

When the loosing of restrictions allow I look forward to meeting you all in person at constituency visit or during a constituency clinic in my new office on Emmet Road. In the meantime please stay in touch by checking this website for my regular updates and following me on social media.

Best Wishes,

Patrick.
